Building Inspectional Services

The Town Hall is closed to the public. Appointments may be made if necessary, by mutual agreement.
Permit applications may be e-mailed or left in the drop box at the accessible entrance.
We are monitoring our e-mail and phone calls.
Applications will be accepted by regular mail, or the drop box outside of the Town Hall or email at Building.ZEO@townofcharlton.net.
The Department of Building Inspectional Services includes the Building Inspector, Gas and Plumbing Inspector, Wiring Inspector, and the Sheet Metal Inspector.
Role
The Department of Building Inspectional Services:
- Enforces the Massachusetts Building Codes, 780 Code of Massachusetts Regulations (C.M.R.)
- Assists homeowners and contractors in obtaining the proper permits for particular projects
- Oversees from start to finish all permitted projects including, conducting necessary inspections and the issuance of completion and/or occupancy certificate
- Works closely with the Zoning Enforcement Officer
