Voter Registration may be completed by mail, at any Registry of Motor Vehicles Office, or in the Town Clerk's Office.
Election Locations
Elections are held at the Heritage School, 34 Oxford Road, Charlton, MA 01507 in the gymnasium. Town meetings are held at the Charlton Middle School located on Oxford Road. For more info: Registrars of Voters

Nomination Papers: Charlton nomination
papers are now available for Tuesday, April 30, 2013 elections. Last day to
take papers out is Friday, March 8, 2013. The following elected town positions
are open:
Board of Selectmen (seat 3) - one 3 year seat
Board of Assessors - one 3 year seat
Cemetery Commission - one 3 year seat
Water and Sewer Commission - two 3 year seats (vote for 2)
Planning Board - one 5 year seat
Recreation Commission - one 3 year seat
Board of Health - one 3 year seat
Trustees of the Charlton Public Library - two 3 year seats (vote for 2)
Constables - two 3 year seats (vote for 2)
Housing Authority - one 5 year seat
Dudley-Charlton Regional School District Committee - one 3 year seat

Notice of Intention of Marriage
The couple must appear together in person at the Town Clerk's Office. There are three worksheets that must be filled out. There is a $10 filing fee payable to Town of Charlton. The license is good for 60 days from the date filed (if you are not married within 60 days, the certificate is null and void). There is also a three day hold on the Notice of Intention of Marriage before it can be picked up. Please note that Massachusetts does not require blood tests for marriage.
Birth / Death / Marriage Certificates
Certified copies of Birth, Death, and Marriage Certificates may be obtained by calling in advance or stopping in to the Town Clerk's Office. There is a $5 fee payable to Town of Charlton.
Business Certificates
Business owners need to appear in person to fill out a Business Certificate. Business Certificates must be notarized. Certificates are valid for 4 years. There is a $20 fee payable to Town of Charlton.
Dog / Kennel Licenses
Dog licenses and Kennel Licenses must be obtained annually at the Town Clerks Office or by mail using the Dog License Mail In Form or Kennel License Application.
The dog license period is January 1 to December 31. The owner or keeper of a dog six (6) months old or over is required to obtain a dog license from the Town Clerk and the license must be attached to a collar or harness of said dog per MGL, Ch. 140, § 137.
When applying for a dog license the applicant must show proof, by a licensed veterinarian's certificate, that the dog has been vaccinated against rabies, as required by Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 140, Sections 137 and 145B.
The Charlton Dog Restraint and Regulation By-Law may also be viewed in the Town Clerk's Office. Please be advised that Charlton has a 24 hour leash law.

Dog owners who fail to license will be subject to a $25 $50* failure to license citation given by the Animal Control Officer. Failure to pay this citation within twenty-one (21) days from the date issued will result in a summons to District Court. *Please note that state law effective October 31, 2012 increased the failure to license and failure to rabies vaccinate fine to $50.
Please notify the Town Clerk if you no longer have your dog or your dog has passed away. Failure to do so may result in a failure to license citation.
Fishing Licenses
Fishing Licenses must be obtained in person at the Town Clerk's Office. Fees vary.

Hunting / Sporting Licenses
Hunting / Sporting Licenses must be obtained in person at the Town Clerk's Office. Please bring in your previous year's Hunting / Sporting License. If you are obtaining a Hunting / Sporting License for the first time, you must show proof of having fulfilled a hunter education course. Fees vary. You may also purchase Primitive Firearms and Archery stamps. for $5.10. Waterfowl stamps are $5.

Gas Storage Permits
The Town Clerk handles annual gas storage permit renewals only. They are due in April. $25 fee payable to Town of Charlton. If you have a new storage container, you must obtain a Gas Store Permit from the Fire Chief.
Raffle Permits
The applicant needs to download the Application for Permit to Conduct Raffles and Bazaars, fill it in, have it signed by the Chief of Police, and then come in to the Town Clerk's Office and get the Raffle Permit.
